Why I Started EF Advantage

I founded EF Advantage to help struggling students learn skills and develop habits that are necessary for improved learning and academic performance.

As a clinical neuropsychologist, I have worked with many children, adolescents, and young adults who are struggling in school. Through comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations, I help these students and their families understand strengths and weaknesses in their cognitive/thinking skills. Many of these students have weak attention and executive functioning skills. As a result, I often make recommendations for ways to strengthen their organizational, time management, and self-regulation skills, in order to improve school performance.

Over the years, though, I have found that it can be hard for students and their families to turn these recommendations into lasting changes in their daily lives. Some families might be unsure about how to set up a system that works for their particular student. Other families might struggle with a student’s level of motivation for using good strategies consistently. Yet other families might discover that the system that worked well for their middle school student no longer seems to be working in high school. Students who did well in high school might find themselves struggling in college.

EF Advantage bridges the gap between identifying a student’s executive functioning challenges and using this information to make effective change for greater academic success.
